Executive Director of EcoWorks
Justin Schott has worked with EcoWorks since 2010, serving as Founder and Program Director of the Youth Energy Squad until June 2015 and Executive Director since then. Schott's accomplishments include growing the Youth Energy Squad program to serve 50 schools and over 3,000 students annually in Southeast Michigan, launching two residential energy efficiency utility programs, and raising over $7 million to support innovative programs that advance both sustainability and social justice.
Schott holds a B.S. from Cornell University and M.S. from the U of M's School of Natural Resources and Environment. Prior to starting the Youth Energy Squad, Schott worked for the National Wildlife Federation, where he published a guide for climate action planning in higher education, served on the national steering committee of the Energy Action Coalition, and held dozens of meetings with elected officials and university leaders at 40 colleges in the Midwest. Schott has led workshops at more than 20 conferences, was selected as a fellow with the TogetherGreen Conservation Leadership and Bank of America Emerging Leaders programs, and serves as the treasurer for the Detroit Regional Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. In his free time, he can be found running marathons, gardening, and finding ways to reduce his personal energy consumption.
