Municipal Energy Planning

Municipal Energy Planning

Together with the Southeast Michigan Regional Energy Office (SEMREO), we invite Southeast Michigan municipalities to participate in our Municipal Energy Planning program to help plan and implement clean energy programs that advance community and economic development goals and save money. Working closely with municipality staff to identify priority areas and planning strategies, we will develop a prioritized energy management plan to ensure that energy investments maximize their developmental and fiscal benefits.

What can we do for you?

By working with you on an energy plan for your municipality, we can:

  • Integrate energy goals and programs into master plans, capital improvement plans, community and economic development plans and other overarching municipal planning processes.

  • Prioritize energy projects according to overall municipal and community goals, values and resources.

  • Identify sustainable financing methods and sources for energy projects.

  • Clearly delegate responsibility for energy programs, including policy making and oversight, financing, implementation, operations and maintenance, measurement and evaluation – scaled to the capacity of each municipality.

Why work with EcoWorks & SEMREO?

Thanks to a generous grant from the C.S. Mott Foundation, we can now provide impartial energy planning services to municipalities. We are non-profit, mission-driven organizations and have no financial interest in specific projects, technologies, or providers.

What's required?

  • No project fee: Our time and expenses are covered by the C.S. Mott Foundation grant.

  • Municipality population between 15,000 and 100,000

  • Staff support: we meet with various municipal staff and need access to municipal energy-use data and other related documents.

  • Clean energy project: a good faith commitment to invest at least $5,000 in a clean energy project before the end of 2018.
